The status and future of the settlements are a “longstanding, divisive debate” among American Jews, said Dov Waxman, a professor of Jewish studies at Northeastern University.

“Overall, the Jewish vote is not really significant in determining presidential elections,” says Northeastern University’s Prof. Dov Waxman, who has written extensively over the years on the politics and culture of the American Jewish community.

One night last week Waxman, a professor of Israel studies at Northeastern University, was fretting over an op-ed he wants to write about the outcome of Israel’s elections, in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to extend his already record-breaking time in office.

The international impact of BDS has alarmed Israel, which, according to Dov Waxman, a professor of political science, international affairs and Israel studies at Northeastern University, has come to regard the movement as a “major strategic threat”.

“Had they not engaged in those publicity tactics, they wouldn’t have a front-page story in the Times,” said Dov Waxman, a professor at Northeastern University who studies American Jewish attitudes toward Israel. “So in a way, you might argue that now is the right time to move on.”
