Dear Northeastern community,
On Friday, the City of Boston announced an update to its COVID-19 mandates: effective at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, masks will be required for all indoor public settings in the city.
Earlier this month, Northeastern announced that we will begin requiring masks on all of our campuses, effective when students move into university housing or on Monday, September 6 for faculty, staff, and students not in university housing.
In alignment with this public health guidance issued for the city of Boston, Northeastern’s indoor mask mandate will now take effect at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27 for all students, faculty, staff, vendor employees, and contractors present on the Boston campus. The indoor mask requirements on our Burlington and Nahant campuses will go into effect on Monday, September 6, as initially planned.
Many of our other campus locations are already following local indoor mask mandates, including Seattle, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Charlotte, and Toronto. Each campus will continue to stay aligned with local guidance, and all campuses will resume indoor mask wearing no later than September 6.
As always, we will continue to monitor health and safety conditions and adapt our approach based on local public health conditions and scientific expertise. Thank you for your flexibility and for taking these measures to protect the health of those around you.
Sincerely,
Ken Henderson
Chancellor and Senior Vice President for Learning
