Summer has finally arrived in Boston, and with it comes a plethora of events both at Northeastern and around the city that you won’t want to miss, from a meet-and-greet with Valkyrie, the NASA robot, to Boston’s biggest ice cream social.

Meet Valkyrie

The Northeastern community will get its first face-to-face look at Valkyrie, the NASA humanoid robot, at a special event in East Village on Wednesday, June 1.

A team of Northeastern researchers was selected by NASA last year to perform advanced research and development on the 6-foot-2, 265-pound robot as part of ongoing work to prepare humanoid robots for deep space travel. The researchers will give a presentation on Valkyrie and their work as part of Wednesday’s event, which is sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations.

The event is sold out but you can still register to be put on a waitlist or watch a live stream of the entire presentation starting at 6:30 p.m.

March with Northeastern at Boston’s Pride Parade

The 2016 Boston Pride Parade is Saturday, June 11, and you are invited to march with Northeastern’s parade team. The parade begins at 11:30 a.m., rain or shine, on Boylston Street and will make its way through Back Bay and the South End.

Cinema by the Sea

Learn how the scientific and marine communities are helping to better manage the stresses placed on oceans by the world’s growing population. The event, “Cinema by the Sea,” will take place at Northeastern’s Marine Science Center in Nahant on Tuesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public and no RSVP is required.

Northeastern night at the Boston Pops

Enjoy some of the greatest hits and rare cuts from the Beach Boys, backed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, at this musical event on Saturday, June 18, at 8 p.m. at Symphony Hall.

The Beach Boys’ co-founder Brian Wilson, who received an honorary degree from Northeastern in 2003, will perform tracks from Pet Sounds in honor of the album’s 50th anniversary.

Scream for ice cream

One of Boston’s favorite summertime traditions, the Scooper Bowl, returns on June 7, 8, and 9 at City Hall Plaza to raise money for the Jimmy Fund.

More than 25 different flavors of ice cream will be offered at this all-you-can-eat event. Ice cream will be served from noon to 8 p.m. each day, and you can buy tickets here.

Dragon Boat festival

The oldest dragon boat festival in North America will take place Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12, on the Charles River and will feature more than 40 Hong Kong-style
dragon boats racing along the water.

Teams will race on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 7 a.m. On Sunday starting at noon on the Cambridge side of the Charles River, there will be a cultural festival that includes food and musical performances.

The entire festival is free and open to the public.
