Dive into immigration law

Hear from Linda Rivas, Executive Director and Managing Attorney, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, as a part of the Daynard Distinguished Visiting Fellows Program. Rivas’ lecture is titled “Border Cruelty: A Day to Day Look at Immigration Law on the Border.” The hybrid event will take place Monday, Oct. 4 at 12:15 p.m. EDT.

Asia, America, and the World lecture series continues

Join Northeastern University’s Asian Studies Program to hear from Dr. Jane Junn, Associates Chair in Social Sciences and Professor of Political Science and Gender/Sexuality Studies at the University of Southern California, who will be giving the talk “Amidst Pandemic and Racial Upheaval: Where Asian Americans Fit.” Register for the “Asia, America, and the World” lecture to be held Thursday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. EDT

Learn about critical disaster studies

Explore the themes of critical disaster studies how it should shape the analysis of and disaster response. Join Jacob Remes, Clinical Associate Professor of History in New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, who directs the Initiative for Critical Disaster Studies in learning about this emerging interdisciplinary field. How to have tough conversations

Join student organizations Lean On Me, Active Minds, and Husky to Husky in learning how to navigate difficult conversations. This interactive workshop will teach participants how to communicate effectively and cover conversation skills, mental health resources on and off-campus, and finding professional help.

Interested in learning how you can integrate community service into your Northeastern experience? Join Joshua Leaston, a Northeastern graduate, current Stanford student, and co-founder of the Boston-based non-profit Envision Difference to hear how you can start your own nonprofit. The virtual event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. EDT.

Recycle your old devices in an environmentally sustainable and data-safe way. Bring an old laptop, smartphone, hard drive, tablet, or another device to the A1 DataShred trucks to make sure you properly destroy devices with associated data. Monday, Oct. 18, 11 a.m. EDT.
