Can’t-miss events on the Boston campus in April

Sing and dance at Springfest. Test new technologies on Cyber Day. Learn more about artificial intelligence. These are just a few of the events and activities that will take place on Northeastern’s Boston campus in April.

This April, Northeastern will also been commemorating Holocaust and Genocide Awareness Week. Throughout the week our community will be coming together to publicly remember the Holocaust, and the millions of victims of genocide around the world.

Tales from a war journalist in Syria

War journalist and photographer Jonathan Alpeyrie will be sharing his story of survival in Syria in a conversation with Bonnie Timmermann, a Hollywood casting director, and Jonathan Kaufman, director of the School of Journalism. This event will take place at the Alumni Center on Monday, April 1, at 3 p.m.

Lunch and learn about law

The School of Law will be hosting two alumni speakers on Wednesday, April 3, at 12 p.m. as part of its Lunch and Learn Speaker Series. Jason Rifkin will be giving a lecture on intellectual property and early-stage biotechnology, and Robert Warren will speak on disruptive technologies and clinical stage pharmaceuticals. The lectures will be held in the Knowles Center.

RISE 2019

Check out the 2019 Research, Innovation, and Scholarship Expo, where hundreds Northeastern students will be showcasing their work, across many disciplines, to industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, and technology enthusiasts. This annual event will take place in the Cabot Cage on Thursday, April 4, at 10 a.m.

Learn about adaptive design

Alex Truesdell, executive director and founder of Adaptive Design Association, will be speaking on campus as part of the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series. Her organization builds low-tech, affordable tools and furniture catered toward children with disabilities. She will be speaking at 11:45 a.m. on April 4, at the Fenway Center, 77 St. Stephen Street.

Discuss the ethics of artificial intelligence

Want to learn more about how issues such as racial bias can affect our technology? The 17th annual Information Ethics Roundtable is back at Northeastern. This year’s conference is titled Justice and Fairness in Data Use and Machine Learning. The three-day event is taking place April 5-7, at Renaissance Park, starting at 9 a.m. each day.

Springfest 2019

Get ready for Springfest 2019, which will feature rapper 2 Chainz, pop singer King Princess, and the indie-pop band Misterwives. The three artists will be taking the stage at Matthews Arena on Saturday, April 6, at 5 p.m.

Taste some gourmet grilled cheese

Be sure to check out Xhibition Kitchen for a free tasting and discussion with wine, chocolate, and cheese expert Adam Centamore. There will be a presentation on how to make grilled cheese with a gourmet twist. This free event will take place inside the Stetson West dining hall on Monday, April 8, at noon.

Get your computer sciences on

Come by the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex atrium on Wednesday, April 10, at 2 p.m. for the naming ceremony of the Khoury College of Computer Sciences. After the naming ceremony there will be a computer sciences festival on Centennial Common starting at 3 p.m.

Cyber Day

Get some hands-on experience with the cyber, virtual reality, and drone technologies that are used by the U.S. Army. Northeastern faculty and researchers will give presentations on the systems they are developing to protect future generations. Events begin at 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 11. Update your knowledge of healthcare

Attend the 2019 annual Health Law Conference, Promises and Perils of Emerging Health Innovations to learn more about the rapidly changing healthcare industry. The two-day conference starts on Thursday, April 11, at 1 p.m. at the School of Law.

Learn about the struggle for human rights

To learn more about the struggle for human rights, come listen to Alfred Brownell, who worked for 20 years as a researcher, legal counsel, and advocate for impoverished communities in Liberia. Brownwell, now a lecturer in the School of Law, will be delivering the annual Valerie Gordon Human Rights Lecture. Check out the lecture on Wednesday, April 17, at 5 p.m. at the Alumni Center.

Celebrate Passover

Join a night of festivities hosted by Northeastern University Hillel on Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m. as it celebrates the first night of Passover. Enjoy a variety of kosher food, drinks, and friendly conversation. The dinner will take place in the Curry Student Center ballroom.
