From a Veterans Day ceremony to Snell Library’s 25th anniversary, here’s a rundown of cant-miss campus events taking place at Northeastern this month.

Northeastern reflects

An interdisciplinary panel of Northeastern faculty will convene for the latest installment in the Conflict. Civility. Respect. Peace: Northeastern Reflects series. The topic will be sex, gender, and justice, with a particular focus on the push to better understand both the “sexed body and the gendered self.”

This event will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Raytheon Amphitheater.

Myra Kraft Open Classroom

Former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank will be a guest speaker at the Myra Kraft Open Classroom event on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. in West Village F. Frank will be joined by Nancy Gertner, a former U.S. federal judge, will discuss the U.S. Supreme Court during the 1960s.

The theme of the Myra Kraft Open Classroom Series this semester focuses on the ’60s, with an emphasis on the how the decade’s biggest events transformed the U.S.

Welcome home

The university community will come together this week to celebrate all things Northeastern during Homecoming 2015. Everyone is invited to wear red and black on Thursday, Nov. 5, for Husky Spirit Day. The newest class of Huskies will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. And a panel of alumni and students will speak about their Northeastern experiences during a special event in the Alumni Center on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.

They’re playing basketball

The Northeastern men’s and women’s basketball teams will celebrate the start of the 2015-16 season with a “Midnight Madness” event on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Cabot Center. Everyone is invited to get their first look at this year’s teams and watch some of the players compete in a 3-point contest and slam-dunk contest.

There will also be free food, free T-shirts, and prizes to win, including tickets to comedian Amy Schumer’s Homecoming show on Nov. 6. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the event starts at 8 p.m.

Both teams will start the new season this month at Boston University on Friday, Nov. 13. The women’s home opener is slated for Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Cabot Center against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The men’s team will play at home for the first time on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Cabot Center against Wentworth.

The men’s team is coming off one of its best seasons in more than two decades, winning 23 games, capturing the Colonial Athletic Association championship, and making an appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Reach (Out) Career Conference

The second annual Reach (OUT) LGBTQA+ Career Conference will bring professionals from various industries to Northeastern’s Cabral Center on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to discuss strategies for workplace success. Students will have the opportunity to network and get advice on reaching career goals.

This event is free for all Northeastern and Boston-area college students with a student ID. Pre-registration is required.

Hockey happenings

The men’s and women’s hockey team will face off against national powers this month at Matthews Arena. The men’s team will host the Boston University Terriers this Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. And the women’s team will take on Boston College on Nov. 28, at 2 p.m.

Happy birthday, Snell!

Snell Library will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Digital Media Commons. Guests can record their favorite library memories, see Snell’s 3-D printer in action, and explore the library’s expansive collection of Northeastern history and artifacts. Pre-registration is required to attend.

Veterans Day Ceremony

The university’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony to honor Northeastern students and alumni who have served their country will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the Northeastern University Veterans Memorial across from the Egan Research Center on Neal F. Finnegan Plaza. This year’s ceremony will include a special announcement regarding veterans’ services at Northeastern.

Cooking with pleasure

Xhibition Kitchen’s free cooking demos and book signings continue on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at noon when Kristen Kish, co-host of the Travel Channel’s 36 Hours, will give a cooking demonstration. Alana Chernila, author of The Homemade Kitchen: Recipes for Cooking With Pleasure, will show off her culinary skills on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at noon.

Global Entrepreneurship Week

Northeastern will celebrate a cornerstone of the university’s education mission, entrepreneurship, during Global Entrepreneurship Week that begins Nov. 16. A number of events are planned to showcase the entrepreneurial spirit students and alumni cultivate during their time at Northeastern.

The Husky Startup Challenge will culminate with Demo Day on Monday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. in the Curry Student Center ballroom. IDEA, Northeastern’s student-run venture accelerator, will host its trade show NEXPO on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Cabot Center.

Women who Inspire

The next installment of this speaker series will feature a panel of experts who will look to answer this question: “Why and how do winning companies recruit to maximize board effectiveness?”

This program is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. in the Raytheon Amphitheater and will include breakfast. Registration is now open.
