Klein Lecture Established in 1964, the Klein University Lecturer Award honors a member of the teaching faculty who has contributed with distinction to his or her field of study. This year, Kara Swanson, associate professor in the School of Law, was selected as the 51st Robert D. Klein Lecturer. She’ll deliver her talk on Tuesday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in the Raytheon Amphitheater. RISE:2015 The annual Research, Innovation, and Scholarship Expo showcases the use-inspired and innovative research being done by hundreds of Northeastern students and faculty across many disciplines. This year, the expo will take place on April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cabot Center. More than 400 people will present their work, and some will be honored with awards in several categories after the event. Husky Start Challenge Demo Day 2015 This first look at the latest student-founded startups at Northeastern is on Monday, April 13, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Ballroom. Hosted by the NU Entrepreneurs Club, this event gives these new entrepreneurs the chance to win more than $5,000. Holocaust Awareness events Two Holocaust Awareness Week events that were postponed earlier this year due to snow have been rescheduled for this month. The 23rd annual Robert Salomon Morton Lecture is set for Monday, April 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the Raytheon Amphitheater. Helen Epstein, the daughter of a Holocaust survivor and author of Children of the Holocaust and Where She Came From: A Daughter’s Search for Her Mother’s History, will be the keynote speaker. The Philip N. Backstrom Jr. Survivor Lecture Series will take place on Wednesday, April 8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Alumni Center. Titled “Talking with Grandma,” the lecture will feature Irene Selig and her grandson Elijah Botkin, S’15. They will discuss Selig’s Holocaust experience and this generation’s role in preserving family history. Student Life Awards This annual event, which is organized by the Center for Student Involvement, recognizes individual Northeastern students as well as student organizations that have done amazing work throughout the past year. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Ballroom. Refreshment and a light dinner will be served. No tickets are needed to attend. This Changes Everything: An Evening with Naomi Klein The University Scholars Program and Civic Engagement Program will present a talk by author and activist Naomi Klein on Thursday, April 16, at 6 p.m. in Blackman Auditorium. Klein’s new book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate, was described by The New York Times as “a book of such ambition and consequence that it is almost unreviewable….The most momentous and contentious environmental book since Silent Spring.” Baseball Beanpot The Northeastern baseball team will play at Fenway Park on Wednesday, April 22, as part of the Baseball Beanpot. The Huskies will compete along with Boston College, Harvard University, and the University of Massachusetts. The consolation game starts at 3 p.m. and the championship game will start 45 minutes after the consolation game ends. The matchups will be determined prior to April 22. Academic Honors Convocation The fifth annual Academic Honors Convocation will celebrate the highest achievements of the Northeastern community. Launched by President Joseph E. Aoun, this ceremony is one of the university’s most significant events of the academic year. Students, faculty, and staff will be honored on Thursday, April 23, at 3 p.m. in Blackman Auditorium. A reception will follow. Senior Showcase exhibit College of Arts, Media and Design students will display their work at the annual Senior Showcase exhibit at Gallery 360 from April 30 to May 27. The exhibit will also feature work from students in the new Information Design and Visualization master’s program as well as those in the university’s studio art program, which partners with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. A reception is scheduled for April 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gallery 360.
