On Wednesday, Northeastern will host the eighth-annual Bouvé College of Health Sciences Health Fair and Flu Clinic, where students, faculty, and staff can get free flu vaccines, donate blood, and receive information about a range of health and wellness topics.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Ballroom and indoor quad. Northastern’s chapter of Phi Delta Chi, the professional fraternity of pharmacy, manages the event. Organizers work closely with University Health and Counseling Services to coordinate the fair.

Students and faculty in the nursing, pharmacy, and physician assistant programs will administer the flu vaccines, which will be provided by UHCS. Northeastern community members can also swing by the Bouvé Health in Motion van, which will be parked on Forsyth Street, to receive flu vaccines. About 2,200 people attended last year’s event, some 1,800 of whom received flu vaccines.

“We will have plenty of flu vaccine on hand,” said Mark Douglass, an associate clinical professor of pharmacy and Phi Delta Chi’s faculty adviser.

Representatives of scores of student groups and university services will be manning tables in the indoor quad to provide visitors with health information geared primarily to students on topics such as healthy eating and nutrition, oral health, smoking cessation, hearing protection, alcohol awareness, breast cancer awareness, STD awareness, personal hygiene at campus gyms and fitness facilities, and sports injury prevention.

Cholesterol and blood pressure screenings will be available at the fair, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital will sponsor a blood drive.

“This is a great event,” said the event committee’s chair Jacky Nguyen, a fifth-year pharmacy student and member of Northeastern’s Phi Delta Chi chapter. “Visitors can get their flu vaccines and learn more about how they can improve their health and well-being.”
