Students who cram for exams on campus or conduct research while on co-op in Cambodia now have unprecedented access to thousands of scientific, technical and medical electronic journals.

The Northeastern University Libraries have expanded their array of online journals by negotiating access to the complete ScienceDirect collection, which includes recent issues of more than 2,000 journals in fields of study as diverse as energy, immunology and molecular biology.

This collection of journals—produced by Elsevier, the world’s leading publisher in science and health information—will be available to the Northeastern community for at least the next two years.

Students who leave campus to study in Italy or participate in a Dialogue of Civilizations program in Egypt will be able to access the journals through the ScienceDirect database or NuCat, the Northeastern libraries’ online catalog.

“We anticipate heavy online use, reflective of the university’s growing research enterprise,” said Will Wakeling, dean of libraries. “Having remote online access to this rich body of scholarly material is important for students who are engaged in experiential-learning programs around the world.”

Students, faculty and staff can also access 52,000 additional scholarly ebook titles through the library’s new ebrary Academic Complete collection. Users can explore this collection by visiting the ebrary site, or finding individual titles through NuCat.
